Research Capacity Development
One of the main activities of the PRN is to encourage the development
of future planning research capacity by recognising the achievements of
young researchers, influencing the agenda of other research funding organisations
and raising awareness of and access to strategic and policy-oriented planning
research within government and academia. The aim is to encourage investment
in knowledge and sharing of information.
In order to realise its aim of encouraging young researchers PRN has established
an annual prize to be awarded to the best planning research paper produced
by young researchers. This will be awarded to the author at one of the
PRN annual events.
In 2006, the intension is to promote wider participations by opening up
the competition to all researchers. At the same time, it is intended to
develop a tighter link between the focus of the prize paper and the current
policy concerns. The topic for 2006 competition is:
The Role of Spatial Planning in Combating
Climate Change
